How to make the family album you have been talking about for years

Childhood goes by fast, so fast. And we capture it all on our phones with the intention of printing books before the kids are in college. It’s a task many people dread, but once done, it is so rewarding. The yearly albums are by far my kids’ favorite bedtime stories.

Here are some tips to turn this laborious task into reality.

  1. Choose your pictures. This is the longest part of the process. So MANY pictures! Since most phones are divided by months, I take it one month at the time. I start with January and I label all my favorites with the heart logo. When I choose the pictures, I include significant memories, pictures of the neighborhood/schools, and cute portraits. I select everything that I feel could trigger their memories later on. Then, I take a break and come back to do February another day.
  2. Choose your album: I use Artifact Uprising. I started using them 7 years ago and I like a uniform look for all my albums.  I
  3. Upload your pictures: Since all the pictures were marked as a favorite, it’s easy to select them all from the favorite folder and upload them on the platform you are using. I put my picture into monthly galleries so it is easier to sort through when designing the pages.
  4. Make the album: The trick is once again to do it little by little. I set aside time to do each month. This way, there is a sense of getting something done without getting overwhelmed.
  5. Read the books to your kids. By far the best part. It’s so sweet to hear them tell the story of their everyday life.

Below are a few of the photos that made it in this year’s album!
